Okaukuejo Camp
Welcome to Okaukuejo Camp, a renowned destination within Etosha National Park. This camp not only offers comfortable accommodation but also serves as the administrative center of the park. With its iconic stone tower and proximity to the Etosha Ecological Institute, Okaukuejo Camp holds a significant place in the park’s history and operations.
Originally established as a military outpost in 1901, the camp expanded over the years, and the distinctive tower was added in 1963. Located in the southern part of Etosha National Park, Okaukuejo Camp is conveniently situated just 17 km from Anderson Gate, making it easily accessible for visitors.
At Okaukuejo, you’ll find a wide range of accommodation options to suit your preferences. The camp also provides essential facilities such as a petrol station and a shop, ensuring that you have all the necessary amenities during your stay. When it comes to dining, the camp’s restaurant and bar offer refreshing drinks and delicious meals, catering to your culinary needs. Additionally, a swimming pool provides a welcome respite on hot days, allowing you to cool off and relax.
One of the main highlights of Okaukuejo Camp is its floodlit waterhole. From the early hours of the morning, the waterhole becomes a bustling hub of animal activity, attracting a diverse range of wildlife that congregates for a drink. Particularly during winter, the sight of various species gathering in close proximity to the camp is a remarkable sight.
As the sun sets, floodlights illuminate the waterhole, providing a unique opportunity to witness the endangered black rhino in action. This ancient mammal often shares the water source with lions and elephants, creating memorable encounters for visitors. The abundance of animals and their interactions at the waterhole make Okaukuejo Rest Camp a must-visit destination within Namibia’s Etosha National Park.
